I found a local 3x5 card I pulled off a board. When I called they were just about to put it out for garage sale. A purchase they had made from a friend in Los Vegas but never set up because of all the acessories they dont know how to hook up, filters exec. So they told me to bring lost of big strong boxes because it weighs too much to move unless the tank and oak stand is unloaded.

Any recommendations what to look for in a cracked acrylic tank before I leave to pick it up, first acrylic tank for me?

Well The guy was real nice and an old Navy submariner about the same time I was on a Navy Carrier so we did allot of gabbing as the tank filled up for testing on its stand for testing in the yard. The tank had been sitting in storage for more then a year belonging to an old house mate that since ran off with a rich guy and diffident want to take it with her and gave it to the seller. The seller never set it up but said that he saw it full of cichlids when he helped his housemate brake it down from her last residence..

No pictures yet but its 60X24X24 and it doesn't leak tested it for an hour full. The front panel and both side is one bent piece. Only the bottom and back and top have seams.

Go to make dinner more to follow!

sweeet score ya gonna have a good deal there thats for sure

I am pretty sure you will be shocked at how nice it is when you pick it up hopefully im subscribed

Amazing how fast you can toast a Coney Is bun with a split Nathans long dog in a good toaster over, dinner is served LOL, as my wife looked at me suspiciously as t why Im so happy. The tank and stand are under tarp in the back yard shed, thank goodness I installed that driveway gate LOL:naughty:.

The tank looks like any other acrylic when its empty and used :silly:, but I know they clean up well if cleaned up with the right stuff and the back where the scenery was tapped when removed looked like new. So at worst all I will have to do is use the pristine back and cut new canister lines for the back.

The top of the tank was cut with big slots by the original owner to accommodate two giant double cartridge HOB power filters that I believe say Maineland on the bottom as they where never cleaned and left to dry. Also included in a big wavy black under-gravel filter, the grids are huge and have humps rather then flat. Some big air pumps, heaters, and a wired looking HOB sterilizer bulb with a plastic black cover.

The top also has there wired metal metal black screens that fit into the top cut outs and two 24" light fixtures that have their own built in acrylic bottoms and the florescent tube sits inside.

Decorations include a few big synthetic rocks with caves.

The cheap blue epoxy sand I left there as I like natural river bed sand.

The stand is pine not Oak but is completely intact with 4 double doors and no rot. Unbelievably its a perimeter stand and even though it has a 6" perimeter flat base I never though it could be used successfully with acrylic due to sag. So besides refinishing I will also add a solid base.

Unfortunatly no wood canopy.

Because the setup is well used and very dirty due to draining and immediate storage, I told him it will required me allot of cleaning, polishing, and refinishing and no telling if any of the equipment will work. So we settled on a price of $70.

I plan to either give this tank set up or one of my glass 80 tanks to m 83 year old mother and set it all up and keep it serviced for her when I visit. I t all depends on which one looks best after clean up she will get the nicest set-up.

Sounds like a fantastic idea Gunner! I've read alot about fish tanks being very good for blood pressure and over all health....that is, unless, you're trying to clean out 150 gallons of water from your livingroom carpet. Then I bet they get to be a real pain in the @$$!! :D I'm sure your mother will love it. I'm looking forward to seeing this beast all cleaned up. Congrats on the find! Great deal!

If you met my mom you would never think that she is 83 as she gets around helping others all the time. And she always wished she had the strength to have her Goldies again. The neighbors used to come see her fish becasue they couldn't believe how well they thrived in her tank.

So I spoke with her on Christmas about my idea of a large tank with just a few Goldies and an FX5 so I wouldent have to do water changes but once a month, and since her water is very good where she lives when I do water changes I should be able to get away with 50%. I know If i teach her she can do the Python, she just cant do bucket brigade anymore.

If I has the money Id hard plumb everything and would do water changes via the internet with servo controlled valves and video LOL But this should work and give me an excuse to ride my 1250 Bandit 650 miles round trip once a month.

As soon as the coast is clear Ill get some dingy photo so you all can compare once its re-finished.
