Local Celebrations

Well, I've been to Cheyenne Days and I thought that was kind of annoying, but my aunt lives in Casper, WY and I missed the dedication of the Oregon Trail interpretive center she helped found. She somehow thought I'd like the plastic-ness of Cheyenne Days. It was disappointing for me.

We have a waterfowl festival the second weekend in November, and while the added traffic is an annoyance, it is a pretty spectacular show. Way overpriced waterfowl art, but since two family members like the show, I have to say it's OK.

This year Boston's hosting the Democratic National Convention... should be tons of fun -- NOT!

My company changed our hours to 7:00-2:30, so that we can all get home before they shut down the ENTIRE highway system within a 25 mile radius of the Fleet Center (where the convention is being held) - which also happens to be the center of the Boston commute traffic. I'm hoping that the AM commute will not be as crazy as "they" are speculating... most people are foregoing driving into town for work, and opting to take the subway. Me, I'm opting out of the subway and driving in (at hubby's expense of $17 per day!!)...

Daycare doesn't open until 6:30, so I actually have no choice but to drive in, but like I said, the subways will be totally overcrowded, so even if I had time to take it, I probably would opt to drive.

The HUGE downside to driving in, having to be here at 7, is that I'm going to have to be out of bed by 5:15 to get ready for the day... and leave my house by 6:15 - 2-year old son in tow.

I will not be a happy camper next week!

Fellsmere Frog Leg Festival Style

Coat legs in a mixture of dry flour, cornmeal and spices. Drop legs into oil at 350° F. Cook 2 to 4 minutes depending on size. The legs tend to rise to the surface when done. Don't overcook. It makes the meat tough. On the other hand, undercooking can leave the flesh like raw fish.

So, I guess what Joe's getting to is that undercooked frog's legs are basically the same as sushi?
