locals hunt....

i have lots of museums and organizations in this area; i live in virginia's historic triangle, at the mouth of the chesapeake bay, so i'm surrounded by academia ^_^

i keep referring to my mom because she's a horticulture student who's been emersed (pun intended) in ID courses for all sorts of different types of flora and fauna for several years now, and she's a geek like me who can't drive down the highway without looking at the trees and flowers and marsh grasses and, and, and...... lmao

i'm looking on nanfa, ms j, but don't see where i should be looking....

you dont live to far from me... I will be watching this! I'll look to see what I can find as well.

EDIT: I found this... talking about invasive species in MD I can't imagine they are too different from VA. Its a basic start....

Yes it is! I live about 20-25 mins from Assateague Island/ Ocean City :-) I went to the lake out back today to see what was growing there. pretty disappointed I must say, however it is a manmade lake... so good things take time

thats a very good link!

Hey, I go to school a few miles away from Yorktown and my art gallery is located there!!!

There are a few aquatic plants that I've seen in lakes in the Newport News area (along with some monster snapping turtles). I suggest going with an open top tank if you get some local plants so they can grow to their full potential. Make sure to quarantine them thoroughly.

oh, i'm not pulling anything from a lake to put in my tank; we were talking about collecting plants to identify them. i am wanting to know what my turtle would be encountering if i had left him to his own devices outside. my neighborhood has seven natural lakes and my house is 100 feet from the big bethel reservoir (which is where i think scooter's mom came up to lay her clutch from), and i have no idea what may be growing in them.
