I have extra 5 and 10 gallon tanks. I know that the tanks are very small, but I was wondering if there is any type of cichlid that could live (and thrive) in such a small tank. If I set one of them back up, I'd like go with a small show fish.

A small colony of neolamprologus multifasciatus in the 10g, or a mated pair of N. brevis in the 5g.

Are they any brightly colored shellies that would work?
Would a betta work in a 5 gallon? That might be nice for my office.

IMO the brightest colored shellie is neolamprologus ocellatus gold. But you'd have to have an established pair or trio for a 10g tank, they are one of the most aggressive shellies. I've been pondering them for my 20g, and I've been told that even that size tank might be too small for them unless they're already established as a mated pair or trio.
