Over a year ago I set up a fifty five gallon freshwater. It was setup to be an Angel tank with plants. The plants suffered and I discovered this forum. Soon came CO2, ferts, new hood with more light. With the indroduction of amazon swords came BBA. I still have a little of it but it became a plague.

The more ferts the more algae seemed to be the case. I became frustrated with DIY CO2, ferts and algae.

Eventually I laid off the ferts, found a workable DIY CO2 recipe and reduced my light.

My question, after I clean the canister filter I get green water. As the weeks go by it clears up until its crystal clear (its current state). I have a theory as to why, but would like input from you all. I have corkscrew vals, Wisteria, red ludwiga, moneywort, crypts and finally a banana plant with a shoot that reached the surface. I do weekly water changes with RO water and electro right. I softened the water because I will be stocking it with discus when I have the $300.00

Water peramiters
PH 6.2-4
kh 2.5
gh 2
temp 78-80

I dose with flourish excel twice a week and DIY CO2, no other ferts.
I have one healthy angel left, 2 botia angelica, one bristlenose pleco, six otos and two lyrelail swords.

P.S. I still get hair algae and BBA as well as some algae on my wisteria, its under control and can be cleaned out with little effort.

Do a search on BBA and you'll find all kinds of info. on the subject.
Cleanliness, Cleanliness, and then some Cleanliness. Scrub everything, pull the plants and dip them 25:1. Lightly, but thoroughly gravel siphon the substrate.
And BUY SOME SAEs!!!!!!!
They will take care of the BBA from there.
Then get the CO2 up and the plants growing well.......no more BBA.
A word of caution.........SAEs will sometimes stress Discus(but then again Otos are supposed to be even more of a pest for them) so clear up the BBA before introducing the Discus.
