Long term plans

angels tend to grow nearly their entire lives.
they just slow down as they age.

How long does it realistically take for angels to go from dime to full grown? (~6 in long and 10 in tall, right?)

Most won't get to 10".

How long do you plan on keeping them? I tend to subsribe to the "permanent home" idea vs. the "I'll upgrade later" thought process. :)

I'm planning on keeping them forever, I was just wondering whether I should expect explosive growth, like a few months and they're big, or slow, steady growth. I like to know what to expect. That's why I made this post.

Many just stop growing at around 3"; I think some strains have effectively become smaller through artificial (if unintentionaly) selection.

So, If I put 2 dime angels in a 5 g QT at the same time, and then into heavily planted 50 gal at the same time, what are the odds they will fight? Also, If I put one angel in, and then somewhere down the line, put another angel in, what are the odds with that scenario?

I would get the Angels all the same size. If u get them different sizes the bigger ones will bully the smaller ones. I saw Angels for $5.00 at Petkingdom.

Hey! I was going to go there, tomarrow, or fri! Love that place! Best LFS I've found in San Diego. Not actually ready to purchase angels yet, but I can definately look.

I think it sounds good. I have 5 angels and about 8 different labyrinth fish in my 55. No one fights but I think that is due to the amount of ladies in the tank. The only thing I would not suggest with angels is NO tiny fish. But all my angels seem to do is bobble up and down slowly in the tank...They are pack hunters, and I have seen them all hunting a danio that got oddly placed in my tank (humm, ch-47, I'm looking at you) Go for it!

My slightly more refined plan, after considering advice and more research:

50g, heavily planted with anubias and tall grasses, with two large semi-hollow driftwood pieces, and a volcano bubbler/cave

2 Pearl Gourami
2 Angels (starting as small as I can get them; nickel or smaller)
2 Bushynose
maybe amanos, maybe kuhli loaches, or maybe both. (still researching kuhlis)

Careful observation, with a 5 gal on standby.
