I am just wondering what the longest someone has kept the same fish. I have 4 black skirted tetras that we used to cycle my dad's, which is now mine, 75 gallon tank, and after 6 years they are still alive. We had five but the one was a runt and he died. Just curious?

I have a CAE that I got in 1984 and two lohachatas from 1989. They were all in the only tank to survive the Hurricane Rita power outage.

I haven't had one for more than a couple years, although now that we are settled in our own house I am hoping my tanks will be much more permanent, so I can work on keeping some fish for longer. When I was in high school our neighbor had a catfish that he had for longer than his son. I think he had it in his tank for over twelve years.
Debra Mark had a really old pacu. Thats who you are prob thinking about. It died when she had that terrible tank crash. See "The worst Fish Disaster" I think that is the name of the thread.
Mine is a blind zebra danio who is 5+ years old. He's not the brightest fish, but it seems to be working okay for him.
Current oldtimers include 3 synodontid cats from 17-18 years old (one died year before last), one mbuna just over 20, and one glowlight Tetra about 7 (his schoolmates died off in 2005).
