i bought 6 red rasbora and unfortunatly 5 of them died. now the lone one seems to be swimming at the top of the tank (almosts looks depressed). He sometimes schools with my neon tetras but most of the time he keeps to himself. is he reall lonely or is it just my imagination. and if so any suggestions of what should be done

After your tank is finished cycling, wait at least a week and buy two more. Then wait another week and buy two more. Build your school back up.

Yes, he is depressed because he has lost his "family" and he does not feel safe in the tank. Schooling fish need the safety of large numbers in order to do really well in a tank. Some grouping fish, corycats, will even wither away and die if they are all alone.
