I want to get a cannister filter for my 120g oscar tank.Right now it has HOB filters on it that work fine, but I am think about getting a cannister to clean up the look of the back of the tank.I know there are a lot of people here who use cannisters and I am wondering what is the best one. Also,do they come with all the hoses needed to use,or does anything need to be bought sperately? Here are some I have been considering,

I am sold on Marineland C Series....they come with everything needed.

Eheim, for sure. Their quality of build is superb and they are super quiet. I bought a Rena Filstar XP3 and an Eheim 2026 and hands down the more superior filter has to be the Eheim.

I would go for the Eheim as well. I switched to them from Fluval canisters years ago and have been very happy. Unfortunately the quality of the proffesional series comes with a hefty price tag.

The price on that first one is very tempting. From personal experiance, not with that filter perse just in general, It just seems like the more features a company packs into something at a low cost = more things to break and low quality over all. JMHO.

I think any of the Marineland, Filstar, or Eheim choices will be good. They're all well-regarded filters.

If you are planing on only one filter (Really, two should be used on a 120 IMO) as much as I LOVE Eheim I think the FX5 would be best out of those choices.
Those marineland cans look nice but do they last for years and years? Nobody knows because they haven't been out that long.
If by chance you are going with two filters, 2x2217 would be fine.

also check www.kensfish.com for prices on canister filters, his have been the best prices that I have found. On my 120g oscar tank i have a c-360, an AC110, and an Emperor 400 (i think). I plan on ditchign the emperor and adding another c-360 when i save up the cash. 2 c-360's would be great on a 120g.

I've had a Eheim 2215 for about a year. I used to have a HOB also.

Ran them both for a little while until I was sure the canister had cycled.

I love the quiet canister. :thm:
