looking for advice for a 29 gallon tank

well, I did buy it, but the size I got was only 4 bucks, so if it doesn't help at least I'm not out a bunch of cash ;) I'm going to order some bio-spira online, but I wanted to make sure I did something now so the water doesn't get bad before it arrives.

my first round of tests show everything as being ok (ph-7.2, ammonia-0.25, nitrites-0.0), but I'll be keeping a close eye on it to make sure I change the water before the ammonia or nitrite levels get too high for my bloodfins.

Ammonia over .25 requires a water change. Same for nitrites.

If you get the Bio Spira, I suggest you do a massive water change to get rid of as much of the Cycle stuff as you can before you add it.

It could very possibly cause problems with Bio Spira. You might want to shoot off a quick email to Marine Land tech and ask them what the best course of action is. They're very good about responding quickly.

FWIW Cycle does not contain the bacteria necessary for cycling FW aquariums. Any bacteria that it does contain is most likely dead as the correct bacteria cannot be made "dormant" as Cycle claims. This is why Bio Spira is refridgerated. It contains live bacteria and when kept cold properly, the bacteria is prevented from continuing their life cycle and dying off (no available food)

If anything, Cycle will shoot up your ammonia and nitrates. It will do nothing for your nitrites and that's what I fear they may interfer with when it comes to the Bio Spira.

PS
I've cycled over 13 tanks with Bio Spira. Only three did not finish the cycle overnight. One took two weeks, one one week and one took three days.
