Looking for advice on my planted tank with CO2

Thanks for the information so far. There is a Clippard distributor very close by, so I just emailed them about the needle valve.

As far as the lights, they are 2 55w PC's (9325k), I was thinking of changing to 6700k. Do you think I have too much light? The tank is 18" tall. It's an Oceanic hood, and came with the 55w PC's. Would it be ok to go with a smaller wattage?

And yes, I'd like to jump right into a pressurized system. I've had freshwater tanks for years (on and off) and have always had them planted, but never had too much luck. I figured I go for the best system available within reason. I'm still confused as to what to do once the CO2 leaves the regulator. How do you know your adding the right amount? I will probably go with the DIY method listed in the link above.

Tap water results:
KH = 6.4
pH = 7.2
gH = need to get a test kit

Tank was set up 11-16-03

Matak- I don't know anyone there actually. I'm a big Anne of Green Gables fan and Love to visit Toronto. when I visit I stay at a B&B in Uxbridge. I try to get up to TO at least once a year. I've taken the (tourist) train from Uxbridge to Stouffville, and then drove though it another time. You live in a beautiful area!

You can determine you CO2 levels by looking up your kH and pH values on a table like this one:
CO2 Chart
You say you are not supplementing CO2 at all right now? You might have some residual acidic substances in there because your CO2 levels are 12ppm according to that site. Regardless, you'll be able to maintain a constant 20ppm with pressurized CO2 once the system is set up.

About your lights - those 9325K bulbs are EXCELLENT for plants. If you change them for some bluish reef bulbs, let me know. I'll take them off your hands. :D

Avonlea, there is nothing wrong with your lights. They will be fine for a nicely planted tank, once you get a handle on how to balance it.
In answer to a previous question that you asked.....with those tap water parameters, you are fine using your tap water.
I agree with "Gulf"....there is something in your water that is causing you to have an acidic reading of about 12ppm based on the ph and kH you gave us.
But there is no need to mess with R/O water. I'd just go with the water coming out of your tap.

Well that is weird. That's straight from the tap this morning. I used a Salifert KH test, and a Pinpoint pH probe.

So this isn't bad?

Ok, I'll keep the lights I have. Sorry GulfCstAquarian :p
