I bought a box filter from a LFS and it was horrible. The plastic is thin. I'm looking for an old box filters from the 70s and 80s that, if memory serves correctly, has much thicker plastic than the junk they make now.

I'd love to get my hands on some old Metaframe or Living World® box filters. I had a Living World® as a kid, and I can't tell you how many times I dropped that thing and it never broke.

The Lee's filter I bought broke as I was pulling it out of the box.

If you have an old box filter, I'm looking to buy. If you're in the Philadelphia area, even better. Then we can do local pickup.

I had one like this 6-7yrs ago. It was an eBay purchase. It was built pretty nicely.

I'm looking around and people seem to think that if it's "vintage," it's somehow worth a lot of money. Found someone selling Metaframe Bubble Up corner filters (probably from the 1960s) and they want $30 EACH for them.

Jehmco sell pretty decent, newly made ones.

Best option is gonna be to pay for the privilege... Plenty have already been sent to landfills already.

I had to google it, because I forgot exactly what those metaframe bubble-up filters looked like. One of my old school LFS (actually sell birds, rodents and reptiles too) still uses those in some of their smaller sale tanks.

Is using vintage HOBs really a thing? I could see for a themed show tank maybe?
It's more a collector thing, not to use them.. I know plenty of people collecting vintage stuff.

Personally, I like the printed stuff, and that's enough for me.
