I lost one of my peacocks today. So I am going to add some rocks for cover in the tank and start the over stocking process. So my question is what type of rocks should I buy and how can I get them to stay together so the wont fall apart and damage a fish or crack my tank. I already have to large pieces of holy rock. Here is a picture of the tank as it is right now. The large river rocks are out of the tank any other ideas.

Sorry you lost one - did you work out why ?

The holey rock things are great for stacking up and creating caves - the river rocks especially the smaller ones less so. You want large pieces of irregular shape.

I have clue what happened, he was fine yesterday, I went in to my fish room this morning he was bright white with chunk missing out of his side. it looks like they had been picking at the dead body. I wish I know what happened. I would love to get more holy rock but the closest place to get any is over an hour way and the wife will not let me spend that much money on more rock. so what else can I use.

i'd go with some narrow pieces of slate and use them with the flat river rocks you have already and create a two or even three level slate cave in the middle of the tank. depending on the weight of the slate you pick up, you may want to lay down some egg crate under your substrate to distribute the weight of the slate, etc. more evenly.

you could also use some pieces of pvc pipe and make caves that way. if you want to make the pipe 'blend' in to your tank better, get a tube of silicone and some gravel and have arts n crafts day, lol, covering the pvc pipes with gravel. then they'll just look like caves in the 'floor' of your tank.

:thm: this is what I did for my AC's...here is an example...

^ really lovely tank.

Are you happy btw with your ammonia/nitrite/nitrate ?

They will indeed nibble on each other when dead so unless there were other signs of aggression previously that may be a red herring.

How old was he ? Any changes in the tank lately ?

I will get readings later tonight after I get off of work, I do have a aggression issue but I have been to to overstock and that will take care of the problem. He had been in the tank for a little over a year, and had just started to color. The only changes in the tank were moving the plants around.

hmmm bit strange - you do lose the occasional one to unseen aggression/stress. Hopefully an isolated death.

Thanks I am going to get some slate tonight and make a rock formation for the tank. I most likely will do both this and the PVC.
