After I lost my Pleco yesterday I did a large WC and got the Ammonia down to 0, NitrIte 0, and NitrAte <20 (didn't test, but it was at 20 before the WC).

Since this morning both Pleco are rasping on the HOB Filter. Not on the intake, but on the stick out part. I put in a piece of squash about an hour and a half ago, but they have not paid attention to it.

What's going on? No other fish is showing any signs of distress. Will retest Water Params right now and post the results.

Water Params:

Temp: 84
Ammonia: 0
NitrIte: 0
NitrAte: 20

Any chance the Plecos are sensitive to the temp, more then the other fish?

I tried putting a stand up fan next to it, but ran out of outlets. I'm running the Window Fan in that room (Living room), and the top is open, so that should keep the water temp from getting any higher.

For the record, my other tanks are all 84 degrees. Bettas, Zebra Danios, Neon Tetras, Black Neon Tetras, Dwarf Gourami, Harlequin Rasboras, Guppies, and Snails are all seemingly fine at the same temp. Can't really tell if my Angel is bothered by it, as it's being acclimated to his new home and the lights are off.

They still haven't touched the Squash. Any ideas?

ph?
gh?
kh? for a planted tank?
84 seems a bit high for a pleco, but what kind? an actual plecostomus? they are pretty hardy. other varieties maybe not so much depending which one.

maybe try egg yolk dried on a rock and left at the bottom. a little banana? (tiny, tiny bit), spinach, snello, chicken liver, beef heart, chicken breast (cooked thoroughly and scraped from the inside with a fork), peas. disclaimer... any meat added to the tank should be in unbelievably small quantities until you are sure they will eat it all... like a pinch of salt small. where did you get them... if not a lfs you should be able to find out what they were eating before. if a lfs you still can find out but i wouldn't believe they were actually eating it until you try for yourself.

are they eating crud off from under your filter? they may be very happy with that alone for now. i know from time to time a snail loves to get under my auto feeder and eat up any crud... then lay eggs... oh well.

You said you got the ammonia DOWN to 0.
What was it before the water change, and why was it elevated?
Did something doe in the tank?

Also try to get the temp down bleow 80.

PH is 6.6
GH Dunno
KH Dunno

Java Moss on driftwood, some plant stems that don't seem to be growing, but aren't dying either.

They are Calico Bristlenose Plecos.

I got them from a member here on AC. About 2 months ago. They'd been happily eating Algae Wafers, Cucumber, and Squash. Squash was their favorite.

I don't think there's anything there to eat. And besides, they aren't moving up and down like they were eating. Looks more like they are just relaxing.

It was almost .25 PPM. Not quite 0, but not quite .25 PPM. It was just starting to get a green tinge.

I think I'm going to disconnect the hood light for my 37 gallon tank and put a fan next to the Pleco tank. Hopefully this gets the temp down.

How's your water movement? If you can't get the temp down then you need an extra air stone in there.

Very good water movement. I have a large airstone strip in there.

BTW, I made a mistake in posting my current water params. The NitrAte is 10, not 20.

Update: The 2 Plecos moved from the Filter (after I moved it up and down to get them off) onto the Heater. They seem to be following each other and like Black material to hang out on. Still not eating the squash or Algae Wafer I threw in.
