almost 2 years i've been keeping tanks and never had it. thought i had it once but i think that was just fungus. now finally I have an african brown knife swimming around looking like a saltine cracker. i treated the whole tank although none of the other fish are showing symptoms... would i have been better off moving him to quarantine for a week?

just hope my moving of fish hasnt spread it more.

yes quarantine would be nice. Since its already in your main tank and the parasite has probably had a chance to reach free swimming stage (nemotode). Turn the heat up to 85 and medicate with malachite green for at least 3 day's but I'd reccommend a week. All you are doing (which you probably already know this part) is speeding up the life cycle and the malachite green takes care of the freem swimmers. About a week of doing this with the heat up to speed up the cycle should take care of them all. Check out wetmans site www.skepticalaquarist.com for in depth info.

I had ick with...

a couple red phantom tetras and they eventually died, even after treatment seemed to cure them, so I'm guessing quarantine is a better method than "whole tank treatment", but my whole aquarium experience is trial and error, so don't take me as gospel
