i'm a dj and have big speakers and sub woofers in my room, will turning up the volume hurt my fish? i dunno how much sound dampening 5 gallons of water provides, also the subwoofer

hurt them probably not, make them uncomfortable, and skittish yes.
remeber fish hear by feeling viration through their lateral lines, and I imagine the thumping of a good sub wolfer would be like having your teeth drill with no novacaine. just a guess on my part. One of the reasons I don't use or like air pumps, is that even with a padded quiet air pump, when you turn it on you can see a reaction in your fish usually.

i had a betta living on top of my sub once... he actualy lasted a long time.
Whats a long time? 1 year? 1 month? 15 years?

it was about 9 or 10 months, he was in a small hexagonal tank, no filter, never changed the water, only fed like once or twice a week. i ended up giving him away
