loud music

I really doubt that anyones home sees the amout of music/noise that mine does-
My Discus tank is on one side of a wall between it and my husbands music room. In his room is a home theater/stereo system of frightening decibels, plus a huge double bass acoustic drum kit with a billion cymbals as well as an electronic kit and many, many other percussion toys. When he and friends really get going in there with the drums and Metallica DVD's you can literally hear them from down the street.

Every now and then I brave the noise to sit and watch the fish to make sure they aren't being negatively affected- Discus are fairly skittish fish and I'm sure would panic if frightened. I have yet to see them even react to the noise much less be scared by it.
The house itself is simple concrete block construction, and built on a concrete slab with no basement etc. underneath. I suspect that has something to do with it, but do not know for sure.

I think it will depend on the frequencies. Fish are full of very resonant structures. Especially the swim bladder which is also part of how a fish hears.

don't bettas normally live 5-7 years? No water changes and fed once or twice a week... no wonder he only lived that long.

I read that Bettas only live about 2 years??? I wouldn't know though, mine are only a few months old, but doing well. I wonder what the water looked like in the tank mentioned above with no filter and no water changes for a year? It must have stunk pretty bad. My tank, even with the filter, has to be changed regularly, or water becomes murky.

We play music all the time, not too loud but not too quiet either, and our fish swim about the same as without music. Hey, maybe this depends on the type of music you listen to. :p

All of my Bettas have lived longer than 4 years, so for my own (personal) standards I go by 4-5 years for an average life expectancy with bettas. However, 5-7 years isn’t what I would call “normal” or to be expected.

i think 5-7 is an average.

haha well drum n bass uses the absolute lowest of the low, and some pretty high ones too. midrange as well. i think they'll be fine tho, didnt really react
