Hi there i have a question that may be a little off topic so sorry bout that but anyways. I have a pretty loud home sterio in the same room as my 40 gal. aquarium. I like to listen to my music loud somtimes and i was just curius if loud music affects fish adversly if anyone knows. so far when i have the music up i havnt noticed any strange behavior the fish act the same as always. I dont want to hurt my fishy's ears so if anyone has any information on this i would appreciate it.

I'd say that while you might not hurt hearing, you definitely might stress them. I know from experience that sound travels under water (snorkelling when speed boats go buy, annoying and alarmingly high pitched). While some fish may not have much in terms of hearing, sound is essentially vibration, which they may sense through other methods.
I guess your best bet would be to turn the stereo on and watch them. If they freak out for an extended period of time when it is on or cower nervoulsy, turn it down until you find a level that is both satisfying to them and you.
Obviously, this isn't the biggest deal in the world for them, so ultimately I think it is a matter of personal choice.

My fish are ok with it. I have 6.1 sound on my PC with the tank about 6" away. So far they have been ok. Sometimes they come up to the glass and "watch" the movie. Their favourite is Finding Nemo

I know I cracked a joke bout fish having ears in the first post, but really I would avoid music that is too loud. This came up in another recent thread in which someone had a 1000 watt system in their fish room. I imagine since fish "hear" with the lateral line that too loud of noises could disorient them, but I've never tested it.
I once had a fish (large cichlid) jump out of a coverless tank when I played a song with very heavy drums and bass too loud in the same room.
I can't say if it was just by freak chance or not but I now take precautions.
I assume that that the heavy low tone of a bass or a drum if loud enough could theoretically reverberate loud enough through the water to cause the fish to freak.
