Found this on another forum (I know shame on me)...but it really is a very nice guide with step by step pictures.

A picture of the effect:

wow.

I've been busy making Riccia rocks, but I have so little open space in my tanks I have to make a bunch of little ones. I'd like to be able to clear a swath in the front and put a nice long Riccia lawn down that stretches across the front (similar to the one pictured. I just know keeping the "lawn mowed" is going to be a pain though.

I'm still trying to figure out what the "wall mats" Amano refers to in his books is. I'm tired of tying stuff to rocks all the time.

I believe its similar or just IS that plastic mesh stuff old ladies use to cross-stitch on, isn't it? I've seen it used in other tanks before to make moss walls...

thanks for sharing. i've left some riccia floating for several weeks now and have been contemplating a similar large carpet up front after rearranging the dwarf sag that isn't so dwarf anymore. i was just dreading how long it would take for the riccia to cover the unsightly mesh that i usually use but since my riccia have formed clumps while floating, it should be easy to just tie them with thread. hmmm, maybe next water change. thanks again for the idea.

I have the plastic "cross stitch" mesh, but from what I gathered the "wall mats" Amano mentioned are tatami, possibly made of rattan. Flexible would be nice too in order to easily make contours. Also not sure if Riccia and plastic would sink...easy enough to find out though.
