Greetings all,

I started my current tank with a Java Fern to see if growing live plants was for me, so far so good. Now I hate the looks of all the fake plants that surround it.

What would my options be for a fairly low light (don't have the specs off hand) and non CO2 injected tank? I am looking for the lowest amount of possible maintenance (not being lazy, just realistic  ) pretty much, what are the easiest plants to grow and maintain.....or am I just going to have a tank full of java fern?

Thanks

Nick

anubias, java moss, java fern and the like. There are other stem plants, and things that "could" be grown in a low light no tech setup. Plenty of stuff actually. Check out
aquabotanic.com forum for "el natural" tank setups. No ferts, lights, water changes.

Also check out aquaticplantcentral.com for the plant finder to see what other types of low light plants will grow. It has an option to specify the different requirements for each plant (ie light, co2, etc).

I've had really good luck growing "Baby Tears" in my 25 Tall with like 1.2 WPG.

I think it's a member of the bacopa family.

could flourish excel be an option?

I've got a low-light tank and I'm growing java fern, cryptocoryne, anubias and hygrophila polysperma. I use a little Flourish Excel for carbon every few days, no ferts (just fish food) and weekly water changes of 25%. Everything except for the hygro is low maintenance, while the hygros require a little pruning every 2 weeks.
