Low Light Plants

Yeah, unfort. I have seen full terrestrial plants sold as "aquatic" plants before!?!? Mainly at the chain stores. Maybe PetNotSoSmart would be more fitting??:grinyes::grinyes: Not sure where your from but we have Pet World Warehouse Outlet (just rolls off the tongue, heah) where I live, think PetSmart is bad.....

haha i mean, petsmart actually has healthier looking plants than my LFS and PetCo.. but that's not saying much.

PetCo also lets you pay like 3 times as much for plants in a tube in some kind of gel. They don't look that great but putting them next to the brown ones in their tank, I guess they get some sales..

Yeah, I probably shouldn't rag PetSmart too much, the one by me is not all that bad either. We don't have Petco. but I'm guessing it's the Pet World equivalent. I see someone is a big Matt Groening fan by the way.......back on subject now, Doohhh!

I'm almost positive that is Anubias Barterii, probably v. Gigantea or v. Gilletti. I will verify when I get my book back. I know there is a hard to find Crypt that gets long stems like that too,I know it is not in my book and I couldn't find anything online, so?? Erin14, do you know if that is one of the crypts or the mystery plant?? I think knowing that could help end the debate....:) I think danbryans is right on the Mondo Grass too, sorry. Nice catch though!!:) Unfort. I would agree with nixing the non-aquatics, you'll be happy in the end.

Since we're talking about it again, get more crypts for that size and lighted tank...they are perfect. Spiralis are awesome, Red and Bronze Wendtii for color and I really like Walkeri for nice bright green and Lutea's get nice and big with nice bronze/dark green color. There are a lot more variations but this is off the top of my head and these are also fairly easy to find. Good luck and keep us updated.:)

Well I know that 3 of the plants in there are for sure crypts but not sure what kinds. Ummm, I also think now that I see what others have said, that picture with the pearl gourami and tiger barbs is anubias, it sounds familiar. The chain sword has been in there for about 2 months, no signs of rotting yet. The other ones that aren't aquatic seem to be doing good actually. They haven't rotted at all...yet (knocks on wood) and they've been in there for probably atleast 3 months. The Tiger Barbs love the grass stuff, you should see them playing in it...hillarious. I should video that. The only thing is that I want some plants that grow tall, and don't most crypts just stay small. I know they spread out (atleast mine are) but they're not getting any taller. I guess if I have to i'll put some tall fake ones in, but they really aren't very realistic looking at all after having real ones. You say that some of those Crypts are easy to find, but the one store doesn't list the plant names or anything, they're just in the tanks, the other store lists the names but they're the scientific names and there plant tank has fish in it and everytime I go there it seems one of the fish has Ich. One time I saw a clown loach who had it reallllly bad, I felt so bad for it, you could see he was really suffering and just barely hanging on. The other time I saw a beautiful discus (not very colorful because of the ich, but still beautiful) covered with Ich too. They're treating them but not as vigarously as they should, its a pet store. I'm just scared to buy one of those plants and then rinse it off and put it in my tank, don't want my fish to get ich and so far i've been lucky. The tanks been set up for over a year and no one with Ich yet. Also, the plant tank is really dirty, lots of brownish/black stuff all over..some kind of algae maybe?? And then that leaves wal-mart, i've got plants there before but they don't have a real good selection. Also, most of them need better light and I can't provide that. Thanks for all the help though!!!

Also regarding the anubias pic with the tiger barbs.. did you bury the rhizome? Cause if you did it will rot as well and eventually your anubias would fade away.
