Low pH urgent question...

Just wanted to let you know that i woke up this morning to a blissfully happy tank (apart from the fighter who is swimming very slowly but at least not at the surface).
Before dropping off i changed the carbon filter as i had previously just put in the old one that i had to take out for the fungal treatment. It was sealed in a bag, but maybe it wasnt functioning properly. I also removed a plant which wasnt in the best of health, but was by no means dead - just a little furry in places. And added a little salt.
pH has risen back to 7 (from 6.6). Nitrite still at 0. Ammonia risen slightly to 0.25ppm from 0. Nitrate fallen from 10 to 5. These readings are more inline with my 'norm' than the previous when the fish were gasping.
