Hello,

The PH level in my tank is low. It is at 6.0. The PH level of my tap water is much higher, at least 7.6. I have yet to test with the high PH set.

What is causing the low PH in my tank? What can I do to increase the PH? I change the water (25%) every week or two. My tank has been set up for three years now.

Thanks in advance.

What test kit are you using? What size is the tank and what fish are in it? What do you use for substrate and other decorations? Check the hardness levels of your tapwater and tank water.

Lots of thing cause low PH. Your water may not have any buffers so it comes out of tap high but drops over time. Your tank may have too much decay (food, plants, ect), CO2 injection?? Too much fish?? Added more fish over time?? Fish do grow--so none of those "It use to be fine".

What is KH and GH?? If both low you can always add some Crush coral, ect.

Just wanted to add that if your filter has pulled a bunch of plant matter or excess food it will acidify the water..even if it is a new filter pad ran for a few days.

I would get samples of all parameters, tank and tap. Sounds like your water changes should be more frequent.
