low-tech 55g "junk drawer"

Wow looks great! Is there a chance you could post exactly what plants you have in there?

Really nice "junk" setup

I like the setup a lot. I am a big fan of tanks that don't look too "planned" - I think it has a great natural look.

this doesnt look bad at all, much nicer than most tanks around here. I am a big fan of true natural tanks, where you place the plants loosely (carpet in front, some mid level, then stems back level), and let nature take its course and only trim when they start to block the lighting. So you ended up with a chaotic tank full of plants, very natural looking! The ada amano style is just too clean and too fake for my liking.

btw what carpet plant is that you have in the middle front of the tank

Drifter - so you are using CO2 and Excel 3x/week? What amount of Excel are you dosing? What type of lights and what wattage? Also curious - what types of fish do you have in there?

i prefer a natural look myself, things can be to perfect sometimes.
a plant list, lol that will take a moment. its the junk drawer so i never really kept track of what all i threw in there.

plant list: L. Repens
whisteria
giant hairgrass
amazon sword
ocelot sword
dwarf hairgrass
fire moss
frogbit
mini riccia
the ground cover is H.M.

As for fauna, well thats been a bit of an oddball accumulation too.
the tank belongs to a pair of leaf fish all the other are just allowed to
live there as long as they dont enter the whole in the driftwood
they call home. but the rest of the list includes:
3 cories
3 columbian tetras
4 tiger barbs
1 peppermint pleco
2 sae's
1 blue crayfish
i add a few otto's when they get down to 2 they get snacked on
by the leaf fish

to answer the question about lighting its just a dbl 48" t5HO
and the excell is about 6 ml 3 times a week. all said and done this set up has
worked well in this tank. there was no real plan to it, now that im thinking of tearing
it down and actually planning it out it will probably crash lol

your junk drawer looks better than my planted tank :hitting:

thanks again everybody for all the kind words regarding the "junk drawer"
i went ahead and started taking some pics tonite of the tank im working on now. ive never kept a photo journal as i worked on one of these things but im going to give it a try.
this is the biggest tank ive ever set up to plant, its a 125g that will be my version of a nature scape. i made quite a few sketches before deciding on the final layout. the past 6 months have been spent gathering the materials to assemble the hardscape, all of the rock, wood, etc.
ill get a few more pics and post those along with all the specs lighting, filtration, and yes this one will have high pressure co2. I dont claim to be good enough at this to teach anybody anything but maybe it will be of intrest. if nothing else let it be a source of inspiration, lol because if i can do it anybody can. more importantly i think the reason we all do this is because we enjoy it and hopefully by sharing our accomplishments & failures we all get a little bit better at it.
