Yes, in a pot. I was up in NH & stopped at Sea World(?), not a great place but they had a tank of $2 plant "rejects" so I got a couple kinds. I did it once before & they were algaefied but I just picked off the emersed yuck along with the rock wool. My cherry shrimp will clean them up if I can keep them planted & I'll see how they do.
You shouldn't have a problem with HM, I have mine in less than 2 wpg. It likes to grow up though, so you have to keep it low.
someone had posted a utube video that showed cutting the rock wool in portions with the plants still attached and planted the rock wool little plugs. that might help.
