Lucky Bamboo

Has anyone tried growing Lucky Bamboo (dracaena) in their tank . . it seems to grow quite well submerged and would offer a good smooth surface for fish to spawn on (Angels for example) but I am not sure whether it will have an adverse effect on the water or not . . . .

You'll need to have the top section of the plant above the water line, or the plant will die. Otherwise, they will be fine.

I always thought that you should only have the first 2 inches covered in water, at the most. I am not sure how it would do if you put the whole thing in water.

I was recently at someone's house who had a few really tall pieces in her tank. They were about 5 feet tall and had about 3 1/2 feet of that out of the water.

you just need part of it, the leavey part mostly. the more you have in the more roots your gona get. I belive. but as long as part of it is out of the water it will do just fine. I had mine in 1.5 - 2 feet of water for about 2 months waiting for roots to grow on them. then I planted them in dirt. they are growing sooo fast now.
