Thanks for looking, everyone! The eggcrate box is just a platform so that the lucky bamboo and pothos pot sits above the water level. I didn't have anything nearly high enough to plant them in that would break the surface, so had to improvise. It does double duty as cover, and doesn't reduce the usable area for the fish, so it's a pretty nice solution.

Loco, the bottom of the tank isn't actually slanted. It really looks that way in pics, but it's only because none of the corners are 90 degree angles.

Labby, a cenote setup is in my top 3 plans for this tank. It'd be a really interesting tank, but I'm not sure I can swing the cost of lights/electricity to run a tank like that.

Rach, we're slowly getting there with the plants. I don't want to drill anything into the ceiling right yet, but will probably add another clamp lamp soon.

Look, if I wanted to get in this thing, I totally could. Might be better for quick naps than for swimming though...
