Has anyone had experience with the viral disease Lymhocystis. I believe one of my Silver Dollars is infected. A brief description as seen on the fish is a small white spot at the base of the tail and/or dorsal fin that grows several times larger and has a fuzzy edged look to it and is raised. Sorry, but I have no pic's at this time.
For a few months I thought the fish had ich, as the disease starts out looking a lot like this kind of infection. The first time I treated the tank for ich only the one Silver Dollar showed signs of the disease. The second time around, three of the Silver Dollars showed signs. Each time I treated the spots were small white spots so I really thought i was fighting ich and the spots would go away during treatment. The third time around the orignal fish was again showing another spot. This time I decided to seperate the fish and wait and see what would happen and to do some more reseach. The disease that seems to best fit the symptoms is Lymphocystis.
My understanding so far is that since its a viral disease there is not much one can do to get rid of it completly. I am assuming that all the Silver Dollars are infected but only the one fish is showing symptoms at this time. I have a hunch that all the fish in the tank have been exposed.
My question is should I keep the fish that is showing symptoms seperated from the general population as I am now presently doing? My reasoning is kind of like... don't kiss the person with a cold sore... And if it contiues to show more infections would you euthanize the fish? I will say that this fish has been very slow growing as compared to the rest of the other Silver Dollars but otherwise seems to show no other ill effects.
