M. Johanni - variants?

I have 1 male M. Johnanni with 2 orange females.

I also have another M. Johanni, with 2 drabber looking females - definately no orange and in fact, a different shape.

I was under the impression initially, that they were M. Johanni, from a different area, then someone suggested that they were M. cyanerhabdos (which it turns out they are not).

Appologies for not posting any pictures, as I have no working camera at the moment, but hopefully this description should be good enough for someone who knows the differences

Sounds like M. Cyanerhabdos to me. Without pictures I have no idea though.

I checked some pics of M. Cyanerhabdos and no deal. The females are almost as blue as the males in those pics.

The females of M. Cyanerhabdos look very blue, but my female here changed from predominantly brown to blue, with maybe a touch of yellow on the fins when she was receptive. The other female remains distinctly brown.

It's odd, as they don't mix with the "other" johannis. I`ve just stripped one of these females of 14 fry, so I`m extra curious now.
Both females were brownish and dull when introduced, but the female that ended up carrying went blueish - grey with almost indistinct yellow tipped fins.

I guess you have a hybrid of some sort.

So is there not a variation on the orange femaled Johanni? from a different area perhaps?
