I think what we've learned through these arguments over the last couple days. There is no better option. This thread could go on forever and there would be no clear-cut winner.

I shouldn't have to know how to fix my car in order to use it, and apple conveniently takes care of these issues for me.

So if you didn't know your car needed an oil change every once and a while it would run forever? I currently work at an auto dealer to pay my way through school and have seen what comes of this mindset... You are wrong. :screwy:

Edit: oops, quoted the wrong thing

Mac is for fun, Pc is for real job.

So I take you know intimately how every single thing you use in your daily life works and would know how to fix it in order to keep it in working order? Expecting everyone to want to know how their computer works is about the same as expecting everyone to get deeply invested in the fish hobby. To me, a computer is a tool and nothing more. Not a passion, and not something I want to spend time having to learn everything about just to be able to use.

Agree with you.... oh wait... I'm an IT!!!

Its... not... complicated. As I said, its about as much work as remembering to get your oil change done. You don't even have to buy anything extra. There are many good free virus scanners out there these days. Most of them you just open the little program and hit "Scan" and walk away and do something else. Kinda like dropping your car off at Jiffy Lube. I don't get what is so complicated about it...

Also, a tool is usually only as good as you let it be. At the end of the day at the auto shop I work at, there is not a tool in their box that has an oil smudge or rust spot on them... You take care of your tools and they will take care of you. Thats how everything works, not just computers.

wow... Will this ever end?

I look at it like this. To compare Macs and PC's is comparing apples to oranges.. Apple builds macs.. and nobody else does.

PCs are built by HP, Compaq, IBM, Dell, Gateway, Acer, Alienware, Toshiba, the list goes on.. Not to mention all the generic whitbox stuff. When IBM released (or lost) the patent on the PC and the rest of the world got the chance to build them things went down hill... Back in the day when Hewlett Packard was supposedly building computers out of used parts, you could buy a biostar motherboard for $29 , everyone was trying to build a cheaper IBM computer. and they did.

PC's are like lawnmowers, no matter what the name plate says theres still most likely a briggs & stratton, or a Kohler or Tecumseh engine under the hood. But you could go buy a cheap plastic wanna be mower from The hardware store, or go buy a john deer (yeah now they make cheap crappy deeres too) But thats my point.. You get what you pay for, and if you go buy a $399 compaq laptop from the store and its got some flimsy hinges, well thats what you paid for.. or go buy a Sony Vio and spend 4-5 times as much and get a much sturdier machine... they still have the same components inside.. Intel, or AMD.

I dont particulary like Vista, and Xp has come a long way from what it once was but, I dont think any OS id better, Windows or Mac OS. People say that the MAC os is a lot more stable, and has less chance of being hijacked, or attacked by viruses online, and they do, But is it because they are better? i dont think so.. Most of the individual users on the internet are PC users.. Most all big coroporations online use PC based systems running Windows...

Hackers want to make the biggest impression possible, they hope to create malicious software to bring down as many systems and users as they can, and those users are PC users.. They would rather target windows systems to get the most bang for their buck, rather than put hours into writing code that might only affect the 5% of the internet that uses Mac OS. When big businesses start to use mac stsyems rather than windows based systems we will all see a HUGE increase in number of malicious mac attacks..

Bottom line is this:

With a PC you can get a Throw away model or a Mercedes Benz
With a Mac, you only get one choice... The apple.

Tek... I'm not saying apples are better or anything, cause honestly, I don't know nearly enough about computers to make that argument. However, they are far more practical for my needs. You say it's not that complicated, and I'm sure to you it isn't, but I've been a pc user for most of my life, have run through a bunch, and have run virus scans, defragged, done all of what I knew to do. Still can't get more than a few months of good use out of them before the problems start popping up. To me, it IS complicated, and is entirely too much work for my tastes. I'd rather just buy an apple, and not deal with the issues, which experience has shown are much fewer and further between.

have to agrea you should know how to take care of a car (it will reward you with alot of miles if you do) the same goes for a computer and most things in life.

:iagree: whole-heartedly.

I apologize if my post seems like an attack toward you, as reading back now it may have. I do see that we have very different point of views. In the end, if it works for you... use it! I can't help but throw myself into these debates, computers and electronics are my passion. I truly meant you no direct insult, but I do stand by my opinions.
