i've seen these macoroni shaped (elbo) things in my tank for a while now...
they are quite smaller then the aucutal noodles... about 1/4th inch long (varing lengths)...

now for my questions...
what is making these things?
are they good or bad?
if bad what do i do to get rid of them?

thanks,
-brandon

Color? Do they move?

My general rule is that until I have reason to suspect a problem, I leave things be. So if you're not seeing anything that's a problem, they likely are not bad.

whitish/tan in color

that's a pretty good rule...
my tank's parimaters are all normal too btw...

snail poop? really? haha

My first blind guess would be free swimming polychaete or other worms . Some of them have an adult phase that will swim while in reproductive phase. Let me ask you a couple of questions? Do they all appear at lights out or on? Do they congregate together? Do they take any intrest in food?
As o.g. said probably harmless most things in your tank are.

p.s. skippy what kind of snails do you have ;)

well they are visable sitting on teh sand with the lights on i normaly see these things a small groups, and soemtimes they seem to move... as for food i'm not sure but when i feed tomarrow i'll watch...

hope the info will give u more info...
i'll see if my digital camera can grab a pic of these since some times it has a fit when takin pics of stuff in the tank...

thanks

Sorry, I was thinking for some reason that they were swimmers. They still might be polychaete but, living in the substrate leaves more options open. They probably are quite harmless scavangers though.

Next time I see what I think is snail poop, I will take a pic. I still think that is what is being described. I have 2 turbos, a bunch of cerith and nassarious. A few astreas. I just picked up 5 margaritas. I know they are a cold climate snail. I just wasn't thinking when I bought them. I think the turbos are leaving the 'macaroni' things.
