I just took my pair of blue rams out of my 75g and put them into a 10g that was set up and running already and had the SAME water (pH, nitrites, nitrates, ammonia, the works) and same temp and they are like pissed off and are just staying down at the bottom and not even moving! Im kind of worried about them but the water isnt bad or anything so I dont think anything would happen from that, I think they are just stressed out... someone help! (I just moved them in today)

I want to try and get them to breed readily, and I've been told to put them in their OWN tank that is small... a breeder recomended a 5g. but i cant find it in my heart to do that to them! so I put them in a 10. They kept getting distracted by my clown loaches in the other tank and I can not part w/ them because they are my babies. they arent eating just yet, I think Im going to give them another day or so and if it still looks bad than im going to put them back maybe I dont know

A 10 gallon is definitely better than a 5 for breeding them. I would give them plenty of things to hide in and around so they feel more secure..and give them time to adjust to the change. They will definitely do better breeding and raising thier fry in a tank all to themselves.

I did manage to get a batch of fry out of a pair I have in a 5 gallon planted tank with echo-complete substrate....but I wasn't trying to raise anymore at this point so I didn't fuss with them at all. Just did regular maintenance and feeding and mom and dad took care of the brood on their own. Did a pretty good job of it too for about 2 weeks....then the filter got them...oh well, like I said...I already had 2 tanks full of juvenile rams I had raised and was in the process of finding homes for...so I wasn't too dissappointed...but I would like to see a pair raise some on thier own so I am setting up a 20L heavily planted tank for that purpose. Then if I manage to get some fry that make it I won't mind getting a paltry sum at the lfs for them...if I don't have to go to too much trouble to get them to a sellable size.

The 5 gallon worked fine while they were spawing and taking care of the fry, but in the span of time between spawnings I found it's too small a space for these two fish to be comfortable with..the male ends up harrassing the female and chasing her around...so I put a divider in the tank to seperate them until I get the 20L set up.

Good luck with your efforts breeding these fish ! Just get plenty of info from folks who have done well with them and sift through it all and find out what works best for you.
