I picked up a 55 gal all-glass tank, stand, hood, 2 dual-55W power compact ballasts with dying bulbs, a sand bed 4" deep, Fe, Ca, and phosphate tests, a nearly new jug of Oceanic salt, a remora aquaC skimmer, and about 100# of live rock this afternoon for $150. The tank had been sitting fallow for 8 months or so without heat or water movement so I'm "cooking" the rock and will need to figure out how to clean the sand. There is still some life on the rock though, I saw what look like forams and there is still some coralline algae growing, as well as some sort of worm that I couldn't ID.

I have no idea what I'm going to put in the tank, but will have several months to think about it while I'm prepping/slowly buying the rest of the components I'll need. I don't want to get too high tech, and probably won't build a fuge unless absolutely necessary. My wife really wants a niger trigger, so I'll see where that train of thought takes me.

Does anyone have any experience reusing old sand like this? It's aragonite sand, I currently have it sitting in a rubbermaid tub in my garage covered in salvaged tank water.

It wasn't out of the tank, it was just sitting there without any heat or powerheads running.

Sweet deal with that set-up and tests.

Can't wait to see pictures. ;)
