The Hit
Concealed by night, a figure sits in a vacant lot, and intently watches a darkened house across the road. After a considerable amount of time, the home's occupant arrives on foot, and enters the house.
Through the large bay window, the watcher is able to see all that transpires. A light turns on, followed by the television. The occupant leaves the room briefly, then returns with a beverage in-hand, and plops down in an over-sized recliner. The chair obscures the resident, with the exception being the rather large cowboy hat that remains visible above the chair's back.
The observer across the way slowly lifts a sniper rifle and peers through the scope. The cross-hairs are trained on the hat, and then lowered an inch or two. The watcher takes a breath and holds it, then squeezes the trigger.
Inside the house, the cowboy hat flies into the air. Blood spatter on a nearby lamp confirms that the bullet has found its mark.
The figure quickly and quietly places the sniper rifle in its case, and casually walks away.
