Mafia 58-

I think it depends on how the role is set up. When I modded I added the "no name" rule because I felt it did give an unfair advantage for someone to openly claim who was what without being questioned, hit, etc. As many of you saw it made the town question the headlines and not use them as the only evidence for lynching someone.

Done right the headlines aren't an advantage either way.

Ogre let the mafia down. When he saw the 1st headline he could have easily copied the style and went with sports instead of sticking to the underground. The 1st headline while might not have said Kash (cash) still could have gotten her lynched if players would have thought her scummy. How is using the actual name any different then what Ogre did?

The investigators have just as good a chance at investigating the journalist and having them hit or lynched.

How is the journalist role any different when there is a Dr to protect the investigator in all games? At least the journalist can't come out and say they are the journalist.

It is an interesting role. I think we've seen some real good luck on the part of the recent journalists though. When I was the journalist in the game with exorcists/demons and kgb/cia people... the actual investigations I made came back unusable to publish. But I lucked out by having the kgb code word stuff from the thread I could use to get them killed instead. Had I not been able to pull those hints from the thread/game play... I would have had nothing to put in those headlines at all.

Continuing...

So what I did in that game was publish obvious clues I found in the thread. And since I had been turned (possessed).. I actually used my investigations to benefit the Demons instead of the town.

So far with the journalist role we've seen one be turned, one get squat from the investigations, and one (two really lol) actually help the town. I really don't think there's enough evidence to say that the role is cheap ;)

Dang, we need another game to start...
