Mafia #98: The Grinch Returns -- The Play

Just a couple followup Qs...

If you felt 2H's vote was garbage why didn't that make you lean to voting there? Would you not consider that vote to be better placed (at the time) than a "random" one on UN?

How did Dun's reasoning for voting UN apply to FF as well? Dun voted UN for the OMGUS vote. FF didn't OMGUS.

1 - A lot of other people gave us non-reasons for their votes, too, Pappy. So no. I didn't think voting 2H for that would help us any more than another equally weak vote on many other choices who were just as likely innocent as scum. Of course, a 2H vote at the time would also have broken the tie which I thought might prove useful so yes, that would also have accomplished the tie break. Ultimately, I didn't know who was scum, didn't have an actual suspect to vote, and picked UN over 2H. I could have just as easily voted 2H over UN. At the time, both were pretty much the same to me.

2 - Pappy, your second question there has me stumped. I could've sworn I'd seen something in the thread where Dun's reason for voting UN could have also applied to FF but Dun overlooked that. Now, I can't find it. Whatever I was thinking must not have come out right. I have no idea now.

The only thing that comes close is this post from Dawg. I may have misread Dawg's post.

I vote to lynch Dun

I don't like the vote for UN and then the reasoning for not voting for FF which ends up as a reason to vote FF. <--- If that doesn't make sense then you know why I am voting Dun.

Kash, I too wonder why it was so important to you to vote one of those three...yes I realize there was a tie, but from your post it "seems" as if you really didn't see a reason yet you did to vote any of them. You also stated that you didn't comment because everything had been stated already, then add what had not been said yet...why did you not say that at the time instead of waiting until after the fact?

Lady G, I've posted now the process I went through to determine where to vote. See if that helps explain my choice better.

As for timing, I bounce around a lot when I'm at the thread and walk away from the computer, then come back to it. I read stuff I agree with all the time and don't always say so... usually because I'm looking at other things while new posts are continuing.

What bothered me the most about Rich and 2H's votes weren't the "just because" reason Rich gave or the "unlynchable" remark 2H made.... it was the fact that both were willing to sacrifice high caliber players right from the git go for no real reason. And with no conviction whatsoever that either of them were actually evil. Looking back through that part of the thread at a later time, I noticed no one else had made that point in the same way I saw it, so that's when I added my remarks to what had already been discussed.

It's too late tonight for me to go on pulling posts and such, so let me add this. What I don't understand about Bally is there was one lynch and one hit during nightfall. In order for Bally to even speculate the hit may have come from Frosty instead of the Grinch, Bally would ALSO have to imagine the mafia team neglected to send in their hit. Even if she skimmed the description so she didn't notice "evil was lurking" in the writeup.... a solitary hit from Frosty that night would have been possible ONLY if the mafia didn't hit anyone at all. It's very rare when that ever happens at all.

so far it appears that these people have voted side by side:

Rich + FF: 1st Dun, and then Bally.
Me + Dawg: Dun both nights.
Pap + Ice: 2h, then Dun

Both nights FF had the first vote, and then never moved it.

Dun was the only one to retract twice, and he retracted from me and then FF.

Nobody beside Dun retracted from a player when others were voting for them. (I.E only lone votes have been retracted)

I don't see anything signifigant in this, and after 1 night it probobly means nothing.

I voted Un first, and didn't retract. Then I voted Dun first, and didn't retract. I have no idea where you got ballys name from :/

Crappy nightfall. Hopefully the nip (and whatever those sugar cookies do) went the town's way.

Nothing about my thoughts on Bally have changed. AAF has been pretty unhelpful, regardless of whatever errands he is trying to do...I also slightly suspect Kash but it's hard to get a read when she doesn't say much...just don't think her explanation about her UN vote was very satisfactory.

FF, I don't think you answered this but why did you say that including the UN votes in your theory strengthened it? I know you've scrapped it but at the time you didn't.

Because a Tie between UN and Dun would have been just as bad as a tie between Dun and 2H. Since only UN is among the living and Dun turned innocent, it appears I was mistaken on my, erm, theory.

Kashta, it's tempting to vote you solely for posting such massive defenses of yourself... your first post was defending yourself. The next, more self-defense, and the third, yet more defense. Then the fourth post gives one more reason to vote bally. 3 massive posts of defense, one little post against bally. I can understand your reason, but was such a massive set of posts really needed to defend yourself? It's almost as though you are hoping people won't read them. Not that I think anyone here who's a vet would choose not to read them.

I'm going to do a reread when I finish my school day tonight, so around 3-4pm est.

The above post was in response to JP asking if Rich wasn't the only one who knew how could the rest of the town be confused.

At the time you made your post about Rich, it was Monday morning. Well after everyone else I mentioned had stated the scum took out one of their own.

Then tonight you voted JP for "talking" you in circles all day. JP asked questions. The circles came in the form of your answers. Would you care to try to explain it again and try to match one of the many answers you have given? Or would we get another answer?
Here is the order of quotes that talk about the nightfall. Rich is the first to comment, brings up that the scum are annoyed with themselves, or frosty made a good shot. So I suppose he was as "confused" as I was.
At least we got an evil elf. I imagine the scum are a little annoyed at themselves right know, either that or Frosty made one heck of a good shot.

That's an interesting reason to vote...almost too far fetched.

The write up mentions evil lurking, so I assume it was the scum hit which means DD was probably the NC evil elf.

I agree, just did not want some one to say I forgot about all the possibilities.

"a dangerous snowball" i assume that means only one. or am i missing something? that and the "evil lurking" definitely suggests a great present to the townies from the evil elves. i'll take what we can get, though.

I agree, doesn't Frostly also throw a snowball, not an icicle?

From running this setup in the past it should be only one shot for Frosty.

thanks for clarifying, pap. that's what i thought, but don't want to assume.

No one seemed to know until Pap stepped in and clarified things from when he ran the set up.

That is all I was referring to, and I'm not sure how I can explain it any differently

differently = better or more clearly
