I see witches mentioned as being a previous game.

... really that almost makes the most sense from a historical account- the game IS played more like a New England Witch-Hunt than anything else.






Another idea- would be the Spanish Inquisition- where you have townsfolks and heretics.

Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!

Each day everyone in the town votes for one person that they want to hand over to the Spanish Inquisition for torture and imprisonment.

There are two groups the heretics (mafia) who communicate with each other in private - and the townsfolk.


The twist to this game would be that since those taken away are not killed but rather imprissoned- all those captured (innocent and heretic) get sent to a prison forum (like the innocent's after-death forum in 53.5)- there they can all vote for a message to send to the town that is revealed at nightfall. The message can only contain one word.


The townsfolk not imprisoned do not know who voted for the message- although if there are more innocents than heretics in prison they could probably assume it's advice for who to get next. If there are more heretics than innocents in the prison then it's probably best ignored.

This idea keeps those who are "dead" still minimally in the game and adds an extra twist.
 
Sorry if any of these have been discussed before but how about...

Cold War theme.

You have Government Operatives as the good guys (townfolk)
Foreign Spies as the bad guys (mafia)...

And to add a little twist... a double agent. Double agents show up on the foreign Spy forums and can communicate with them and help decide who gets hit- however... double agents can not communicate privately with each other and their goal is to extend the game

If the foreign spies win... dual agents lose... if the government ops win.... dual agents lose. For dual agents to win the game has to last 8* (number to be decided by moderator) game days and they have to stay alive.

This way there will be a little in-fighting and suspicion amongst the foreign spies and they may end up taking out their own team.
