Mafia Games....

UDs are part of a game but I wouldn't mind a game without them to mix things up a bit.

I think if you only allow the dr to protect someone for one night it makes the detective Rcing a much more dangerous idea.
Agreed!!!

RCing, IMO, can be a tactical move it is true. It is also true that it is part of the game. The problem I have with it is it has been increasingly used as a crutch.

That is players post themselves into the noose then RC to save their butt. IMO, it ruins the game when you have someone RC on D1 because they are up for the lynch.

How does that ruin the game? Would you rather just lynch a PR outright on D1 to find out their role, after the fact? I'd rather know ahead of time that the person being lynched might be the doctor. I don't have to believe the claim, but it's definitely a nice-to-know.

Good luck with that. I think when someone posts in the signup, "/IN WOO HOO! But I won't be able to participate," that the mod needs to not accept them for the game. People don't do anybody any favors by filling a spot and then not playing, and ultimately UDing.

It's no fun when someone is attacked for not participating (and therefore not helping the town), and their response is the ol' "Read the sign-up thread again. I said there that I wouldn't be participating much.."

I'll adapt that next time I mod a game.

Role claims hurt these games in the long run when people rely on it to save themself instead of learning better ways to avoid getting themself lynched in the first place.

Without a last-resort RC as an option/safety net, then yes... as a PR, the person is going to die. But that's how we learn to play this game better. And next time, we have a better idea what to post and what not to post so we won't hurt the team we're on. It's the same learning curve for all of us.. and role claims that are self-protecting instead of tactical don't help with this at all.

On the subject of improving play, I remember when I started these games there used to be a lot of post game discussion.

Questioning why someone posted this or thought that. When that was done, it would point out flaws in a persons game play so that those that wanted to, could make adjustments and improve.

Lately though, it seems everyone is eager to post the links to the scum dens. Everyone reads those, take offense at something then the post game thread never grows because the discussion of the game is pretty much over.

sign up posted.

For the life of me I don't understand why people would want to ban role-claiming, or even complain about it...IT'S PART OF THE GAME. Role claiming only becomes a problem when you have a weak setup. If role-claiming is breaking too many games, then mods need to do a better job of balancing them.

For one, stop letting the doctor and detective speak to each other every game. Someone did that in one game, very long ago, and it's become a rule here, that the doc and detective also get to be masons. Just a thought.

I don't get it either, I think RCing is part of the game.

We change things up to keep it different, and sometimes that makes RCing a problem if there's something the mod didn't think of.

How soon to people want to start the next game?

I'm good anytime.
