Mafia Games....

k so heres a draft, I adopted hay's format...

Mafia: Thug Life

Shorty just got out from the Penn upstate, and returns to ACville to find that all his homies arein hiding, and that some new kats are running his old hood. Shorty knows that he's gotta get his bro's back if he wants to survive, so he starts bringing the gang back together.

After Shorty's release, the cop who put him away dies mysteriously. The cop's young rookie partner thinks it was Shorty, so he goes rogue to clean up his hood and get revenge on Shorty.

The Spotter was once a decorated veteran, he has been trying to clean up the streets since returning from the Special Forces. After the arrival of Shorty, he is begging to think that maybe a unified gang will stop the gang wars between the new smaller gangs.

ROLES

Shorty (don)-
needs gang members, so he starts recruiting brothers off the street to help him take the hood back. Shorty gets to recruit a new member his first two nights in ACville. (One turn at game start, no turn D1) After the first two nights, the Rookie starts to put heat on the neighborhood, so Shorty may only be able to discover the gang of a bro instead of recruiting him. (50/50 turn/invest)

Recruits (plain ole scum)-
they have no powers, as Shorty decides the turn. In the event of Shorty's death, then the scum will vote to elect a new leader. The scum will also elect a medic on night 3 who gets two protects but only one can be used on him/herself.

The Rookie-
gets one hit every night, but doesn't have to use it every night.

The Spotter-
He gets an invest once a night, and can communicate with the rookie if he invest him, or with the scum team if he discovers any member of the team. The spotter can choose whether to help the good or evil team, and can snitch one role per game, but must PM me with their decision FIRST. I will then submit a hint to the town. The SPOTTER CAN'T REVEAL ROLES TO THE PUBLIC.

Brothers (townies)- no special powers, vote to lynch a player once a night. They win once they eliminate Shorty's gang

RULES:
Everyone must vote to reveal the intentions of someone every nightfall in bold otherwise they will UD. To do so, you must write:

I vote to cap _____

You can’t vote for no one or yourself.
Do not put your vote in your signature.
Whoever has the most votes will be eliminated from the game, if it’s a tie, I will flip a coin.
Everything stays in the game, no PMing people and setting up deals or alliances, or discussing issues in this game on other sites. The sole exception to this is the authorization by me for special role players to do so.
You can say whatever you want in the game, but you can't 'prove it' with my PM to you.
NO personal attacks, insults or jabs. This is a game, so have fun and don’t be a bully.
There is no role claiming, so you can not tell the town what your role is. Jokingly is fine, just make sure to write Just kidding, or JK afterwards.

Order of events each nightfall:

Elimination (lynching)
Shorty's Turn/ Invest
The Rookie's Hit
Spotter's one time Hit
Untimely deaths (UDs)
Spotter's one time Hint

Keeping the rules simple..like games 10-40 makes things easy....

Stopping all the non-sense posting helps more....

Following the rules works even better....

Back to the basic games and those with the game play centered around that (one scum team, detective, doctor, etc.) are the best to play IMO and the easiest to mod your first time around. The string of games I felt were the best tended to stick to the basic mafia mold but added a new twist here and there to fit whatever theme the mod wanted to base the game on.

I agree. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a basic format, and everyone is very clear on the rules. This helps avoid problems and you face less difficult decisions that have to be made as a mod. Rules are clear-cut. Plus, with this crowd, there is always gonna be someone pushing the rules...back to basics game you avoid that issue. It's fun to try out other formats, but I don't think they play out as well.

You can make a back to basics game with any theme you choose. Just re-label the roles but don't change any rules or powers.

back to basics game it is, I guess I'll rework the one you did recently Pap (i think)

guys I can't mod the next one, but I can after the next week or two... sorry!
