Magnet cleaners...sux...

So I learned my lesson the hard way this morning. I used a magnet cleaner on my tank and I must have got a small piece of sand in it. Put 2 nice long scratches in my tank. On the lighter side they are on the outside..(i know go figure) so I'm hoping I can buff them out. The tank is glass. Anyone have any ideas to get rid of the scratched, and for an alternative to the magnet cleaners?
 
Man, that sucks. I've heard that you have to be really careful with magnet cleaners and sand. You can get one of the scrubbers on a handle...
 
Glass should not scratch that easily, and if it does get scratched, you can't really do anything. Are you sure you didn't just make a mark in it?
 
I actually put my outside magnet inside a sock and use that when cleaning the tank to avoid scratching it. I felt like the outside one was far too "rough" anyhow, and it worried me that it would scratch the tank. At least with a clean sock each week when I clean the tank, I don't have to worry about that.

It's a thought anyhow.

But in all reality, the mag floats don't do a great job of cleaning the whole tank. They're good for the big open spaces, but I use a glass cleaning sponge for the rest of it. It's easier, at least for me.

Not sure about buffing the glass, but hopefully someone else here will have some pointers there.

the magnets between the two algae scrapers are extremely stong; even the smallest grain of sand is forced between them and will scratch glass very easily.
 
My used tank has a few scratches on it. I looked into fixing them but from what I read it would take a lot of pressure to buff them out. Car supply stores sell glass buffing paste that is used to remove scratches from car windows. I saw a post from a guy that used it and it worked but it was hours of buffing.

Since my scratches are hardly noticeable I decided to do nothing.

if so THAT SUCKS
