I have this idea and was wondering if anyone had already given it a try, and what the outcome was.

I'm going to be buying a 75 gallon tank in the next few weeks, and I have an old Magnum 350 sitting around collecting dust that I thought I could use on it. Reading the information about the Odyssea 500 that one of the members had posted here, I thought that maybe the Magnum 350 could be modified to function in a similar manner.

Several of the sponge filter replacement sponges have a diameter of the same or slightly greater diameter as the media container for the Magnum. If the center were trimmed out slightly (a detail to be worked out) on a couple of these sponges and they were fit onto the central tube of the Magnum, it seems they would function well for mechanical and biological filtration, after being wrapped with some poly batting.

Is this a workable idea? Any thoughts?

oops, I put the polishing filter in first, THEN the carbon sock and then the poly fill ;)
