for my 55 gallon i have a magnum 350 with bio-wheels and a AC 802 powerhead with the attachable filter. I was wondering since u cant use carbon with the micron filter, only if u use the right size sleeve thing, if instead i put the carbon in the contaner type thing in the power head filter if that would work fine? btw the magnum pumps 350 g/hr and the AC power pumps 400 g/hr

Hey Cat, I use a magnum 350 myself as well as other Magnum products that use the micron filter.
The micron filter is intended for quick clean ups and water polishing. Idealy you want to use the Carbon container and floss sleeve for 'full time' filtering.
I tried using the micron filter primarily and it would clog very quickly and greatly reduce the GPH of the filter.
When I want to 'Polish' my water I throw my HOT magnum 250 on the side of the tank with the micron filter and sometimes change the 350 over to the micron, but for not more than 10-12 hours.

I agree with DeVitaf on this one. I use my HOT Magnum for quick water polishing. It does a great job, but only run it for a day or so. I have a 350 that I use everyday with the mesh filter / carbon basket.
i got another question, the canister keeps filling with air, i keep "burping it" then the next day it has air in it again, what do i do?

You got me on that one.
I would assume that if air was getting into your filter than water must be leaking from where the air is getting in. Have you spotted any leaks?
Do you have an air stone under your filter intake?
I have two 350's and haven't seen the problem

I have my magnum 350 running now for 5 weeks on a tank restart that is in it's 5th week of cycling, and have noticed that the hoses are starting to get some yellow gunk in them. the hoses are shielded from all light, so it must be time to rinse the filter sleeve out, and check on the condition of the carbon at the same time. i don't think that the magnum itself produces much bio filtration, i do have a powerhead with an attached foam filter . does anyone here have the magnums bio-wheel attachment filter ? and if so, how does it hook up to the magnum, and does it reduce the outflow since some is being diverted to the bio-wheel part of it ?Originally posted by Hootchieman
