so i got a bunch of plants mail order. they came when it was 23 degrees F, there was no heat pack in the box. nothing seemed frozen, but the temp was in the 30's in the box.

the crypts melted, but are recovering i think
the stargrass turned mostly black
the golden nesaea melted away
the java fern turning black and falling apart
the amazon sword went straight to see though

do you think cold would do that? the seller said if they were green, they'd be okay, but...frozen broccoli is green and it won't grow again, so not sure how them being green is relevant, if cold damaged.

The cold would do that. Best bet they are dead for the most part. I would still try just in case. When it's that cold it's a good idea to let the seller know. I know I try to check the weather before shipping each package but every once in a while one will slip through the cracks.

I'm not trying to point fingers one way or the other but maybe you should have communicated to the seller that it was going to be that cold in your area. He could have been more aware as well and asked what your temps were going to be. Shipping could then have been delayed until it warmed up a little or a heat pack could have been added. Communicating between buyer and seller esp. this type of info at this time of year is very important

point taken, shipment went longer than expected hitting cold day.

anyway, i posted here because i did not know if cold could do that to plants like that. i knew frost kills my plants, but not if cold will wreck aquatic plants
