Mail-ordering fish?

I've only ordered fish once, and all of them lived :)

They were mosquitofish (40 of them) and I got them on eBay for 25 dollars, it took a few days to get to my house, but they all lived...

All of my current fish are online ordered. I use to have several lfs but now there are none in my city. I've had a few doa's but either got my money back or got new fish from them. Just make sure there a reliable supplier.

I have gotten many fish online. Shipping is always a gamble and the most expensive part, but I usually do priority and they make it just fine. I have rarely had issues. I've also shipped fish and inverts using priority and never had a problem. That said, I dont like to ship fish in extreme temperatures or around holidays. Make sure you know the weather where they are coming from and your place for the time it takes to ship, some sellers wont check.

Finally, like many people have mentioned, I also dont live near any decent fish stores and I dont want to buy sick fish from Walmart. I also work 50-60 hours a week and dont have time to always drive an hour one way to check out fish stores. Having them shipped is easier for me, and takes less of my time, which makes it worth it, especially since I have so much success. Dont be afraid to try it!

Years ago I used to breed Angels, just before that thing Mondale invented got off the ground. I remember having to haggle to get 50 cents a fish for something they couldn't get even get from the Asian wholesalers. Instead of embracing local serious hobbyists, they insisted on the crazy 500% markup business model across the board. So yes, now that I've come back to Angelfish, all of those stores are long gone.

Do a little homework on the folks on Aquabid. There are a whole boatload of quality people there. You'll most likely find some that are close by and Priority Mail would work just like overnight service. If the weather makes you squeemish, wait it out; but most folks know how to ship in any weather.
