major tank issues

Was anything used to clean the tank besides cold water? Maybe a residue or something like that.

It sounds like high ammonia, but you said water checks out. You may try draining it completely and refilling. Otherwise if it is some type of very aggressive parasite you may need to nuke the tank and start over.

There's no way that was overstocked. It's better to add in a couple fish at a time, though.

The symptoms are nothing like ammonia poisoning, either.

Maybe the substrate is contaminated somehow. Maybe even the filter has something toxic leaching back into it, if the water is very hot or very salty. Are you absolutely sure the heat was not too high? The symptoms match that exactly.

It's no surprise the green terror lasted longer they can take more punishment. His eye is clouded but not fuzzy? That could be too much heat, not sure what else that would be. I don't think ich or anything like that would make them go aggro.

I contacted the guy who i bought the tank from and he said that before he tore it down he did house a iguana in the tank but he didnt think i would have needed to know, i read that if i use a 10;1 water bleach solution and leave it in the sun for a day or two i should be good can anyone back this up? im going to give this a shot

Not ammonia poisoning, ammonia burning. It looks similar. Spots appear (usually it is the slime coat going into overdrive to rebuild what is burning away), slime coat burns away, eyes get cloudy grey/white. But as I said, if the tests come out fine then it is not likely that. That generally requires the ammonia to be reading off the scale.

If this is a used tank then that opens up a whole new possibility. You can use a water/bleach solution. Just rinse a lot and overdose the dechlorinator when you refill. But I'd also ask the original owner if he resealed the tank at any point. Constantly toxic tank without any good reason could be the wrong type of silicone. Some silicone has some pretty nasty stuff added to it that shouldn't be put in a fish tank.

rather then fixing my tank im taking it down to make room for my 90 gallon tall and giving my 55 too a buddy to use as a terrarium and in return im taking a 10 gal fishtank and a 10 gal terrarium. if anyone has any experience with terrariums im opening a new thread and all advice and suggestions will be greatly appreciated. thank all of you for helping me.

my last substrate had silica in it could this have contaminated my set up? i have read on several forums that it would be fine but am now questioning it though i have seen successful tank set ups tht had silica in the substrate

Silica sand will not cause health issues.
