Betta do well with ghost shrimp and Neon tetras. Anything that is not aggressive or flashy (which he would be aggressive towards). If you were so inclined - you can have another betta buddy in a jar to put next to the tank so they can be "flare buddies". I even keep several in a tank but divided or in one of those "breeder" keepers suctioned inside the tank.
