Making a Waterfall from a Canister Filter?

Glass canopies for long tanks come in two sections, so it would be easy enough to use just one section of that. Screen tops are usually full length, though; either make a DIY one or cut an existing top in half. You can secure the screen top with clips.

Sounds like a good idea... As far as making something 1/2 glass 1/2 mesh, I know quite a few people(myself included) simply get a piece of glass/plexi cut to cover however much of the mesh we want covered.

I just have a little comment, Leopard frogs are mostly aquatic, so I would do at least 1/3 land 2/3 water. What you could also do is take a screen top and lay over a sheet of vynil to cover the whole screen. Then you tape the vyvil to the screen except for a little bit at the end. This way, you can control if you want it to be super humid in the tank, or air it out by opening up the flap. Slate piece siliconed together can also make a really good waterfall piece. I'm looking forward to this project. :)

Thanks! I will look into water amounts more; I kept getting the recommendation of 1/2 and 1/2, but if I could do more water, I'd prefer that.

I have used an ehiem canister filter for my waterfall for a couple years now. even though ehiem does not recomend more the 4' of head pressure it has been pushing 6 ' and the nice thing about using a canister if you want a fall and a stream you can split the feed and run toa co2 reactor or simply feed a second area.

I totally made a waterfall type thing in my tank with an internal filter. The filter isn't completely hidden, but I like it anyway. I found a piece of pagoda that had a natural staircase kind of look to it and positioned it in front of the spout. It has a bit on top that sticks up enough to cover the filter spout just enough that it can't be seen from far away. It worked out so easily! I had been planning to stack up flat rocks myself but I got lucky with this piece.
