Making an online Fish Tank webcam!

Haven't gotten around to it.

I want a (fish safe) remote control submarine webcam that can be controlled via the internet. This does not exist as far as I know.

I have a friend with a Slingbox. Think about this, any video camera pointed at the aquarium can be hooked up to the Slingbox. Now you can watch the aquarium from your Palm Treo, smartphone or any computer. Radical. I dunno if you can put a Slingbox feed on a website though.

Just wondering if you tried this? I have been thinking about it myself... the wife made me promise that it cant see into the house....she doesnt want to be cought naked on the web ;)

and just why would she be walking around naked???

nice idea though, sort of like a live stream on the web of zoo exhibit.

Yeah, I’m thinking of this too. Haven’t seen any in a while but there use to be some 'fishcams' out there. Actually on one of the older versions of netscape navigator one of the easter eggs (hitting ctrl+alt+F) would pop up netscapes fishcam. That was several years ago.

Edit> looks like the netscape fishcam is still there! http://wp.netscape.com/fishcam/

The only thing I worry is bandwidth on my home connection trying to also run my website. Will be testing that though. They do make pan and tilt cameras that are web-controllable, so I am sure one could modify for other movement. I have long eye-balled and underwater cam with IR illumination cheap at my local Harbor Freight Tools, but I dont know if the focus range or viewing angle would be good, and its an analog hookup.

I've not done it that way, but I have done the fish cam thing. It's kind of cool to check in on them. I'll be setting up another cam or two here soon once I get my 10G up.

No you can't see the colors as good as in person, but you can see them in action.

Or see them at work when bored :) Great idea and can't believe I hadn't done it yet...
