male and female betta together?

Its a fish which has a breathing apparatus called a Labyrinth (spelling?) which basically allows the fish to pull oxygen out of the air if needed. Its useful for fish who live in swampy areas with slow moving water and poor aeration. It is also useful for fish who are commonly kept in bowl (poor fishys). These include bettas, gouramis and others.

I have a male betta in a 12 Gallon Eclipse along with 4 Emerald Cats (brochis splendens). They all get along fine. The cats usually (but not always) stick together. Sometimes the betta mingles near them, but for the most part, they pretty much ignore each other (the cats and the betta).
