How about the Florida museum of natural history?

And a molly is a molly is a molly ... they have different varieties, but they're all the same species and are all sexually compatible. You can breed sailfins to dalmations blahblahblah.
As for species of Mollies there are about 20-25 speices of different Mollies out there, not varieties.

I've never seen a mollie in an aquarium get over 3" and most don't get over 2".

Let me ask you this: Can you breed Poecilia latipinna with Poecilia velifera and produce viable offspring? The answer is yes, you can. But then, what species are the offspring? What species are the F2 generation?

So sure, there are different species, but I don't buy into that sort of taxonomic indexing. And I'm allowed to not buy into it since taxonomy is such a huge part of my life.

I can also cross breed endlers with Guppies, sword tails with platies, but I am not here to argue but stop misceptions. Basically most fish that fall under Poecilia can and will interbreed with each other. This is like a donkey and a horse breeding and the end result is a mule. Now is the Donkey and the horse the same species? no they are not but they do share some of the same gentic traits that allows them to interbreed. Same goes for a wolf and a dog, different species but still can interbreed.
If you would like to discuss this, we could create a new thread or just pm me. :D

I did see some huge sailfin mollies about a month back...They had to be 4 inches...They were actually really beautiful..Great colour and much larger then I had ever seen before...

Wow! Where'd you see those! I'd love it if I could get some 4" mollies!

And just to be a smart *** ... I saw a 7' tall man once, so humans must grow to 7'! :p:

I'm going to start a thread for us tricksterpup ... interesting topic.

Well, that's only about a ... three to four day drive for me. I'll be right up to check it out!

Would neon tetras work in with the betta? I saw someone suggest tetras, and have always wanted some neons.
